Our Spirit of Giving no background

Our Spirit of Giving - an annual giving program for Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield employees.

Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield has a long history of philanthropic support, and Mercy employees have always been the first to give and have given most generously. We proudly offer the opportunity to continue this tradition of giving through Our Spirit of Giving, the Friends of Mercy Foundation’s annual employee giving program.

Our mission of ensuring state-of-the-art, compassionate healthcare for all in our community has never been more relevant or critical. With your support, we will continue to advance Mercy’s mission of healing now and for generations to come.

100% of your gift will support:
Mercy Southwest Patient Care Tower Oncology Unit: Mercy’s Inpatient Cancer Unit is the only one in Kern County, and we are honored to partner with Drs. Ravi and Naina Patel to expand the current unit to 16 family suites in the new patient care tower. In addition to offering the most advanced surgical care, certified oncology nurses and navigators journey with the patients during this challenging time. As these patients often have extended admissions, your support will allow us to furnish the rooms and offer amenities in a homelike environment.

Respiratory Therapy: The importance of Respiratory Therapy has never been appreciated as much it has been during the COVID pandemic. RTs work in all patient care areas, often with the sickest patients – helping patients breathe and addressing issues in the airway. To do this, they use ever-advancing technologies to support ventilated and non-ventilated patients. Your support will allow them to continue to quickly identify and purchase state of the art equipment to be used in the ER, NICU, ICU, Med/Surg/Tele and surgical units.

Community Outreach - Aging in Place Support: Many elderly and disabled adults have no access to in home care services. For example, light housekeeping, shopping, personal care needs and daily medication management are considered custodial care services and not covered by Medicare and private insurance. Yet, these in home services are vital to allowing them to remain in their homes, near their family, friends, pets and precious belongings. The Homemaker Care Program provides these services to vulnerable individuals who otherwise could not pay. Your support will mean someone with need can rest assured that their future is not in a skilled nursing facility, but spent in their homes, with dignity and comfort.
