The Friends of Mercy Foundation proudly receives $250,000 grant from The California Endowment

The Friends of Mercy Foundation recently received a $250,000 grant from The California Endowment. With this generous grant, the Foundation will be able to support the work of the Community Health Initiative of Kern County (CHI), a program of Mercy’s Department of Special Needs and Community Outreach.

CHI is a community partnership working to provide uninsured individuals and families’ access to comprehensive health insurance. Funds from the grant will be used to establish and coordinate coalition efforts to educate the public and policy makers on the importance of Medi-Cal coverage. CHI will continue to work diligently to enroll our community’s low-income families and children in healthcare programs.

Funds from this generous grant will be used to create a coalition of individuals and organizations dedicated to expanding health care coverage to those who need it most in Kern County. They will participate in statewide and national efforts to maximize Medi-Cal coverage for low-income persons in Kern County and will coordinate media efforts related to educating the public and policymakers on the human impact of Medi-Cal coverage.
