Our Spirit of Giving - an annual giving program for Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield employees.

Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield has a long history of philanthropic support, and Mercy employees have always been the first to give and have given most generously. We proudly offer the opportunity to continue this tradition of giving through Our Spirit of Giving, the Friends of Mercy Foundation’s annual employee giving program.

Our mission of ensuring state-of-the-art, compassionate healthcare for all in our community has never been more relevant or critical. With your support, we will continue to advance Mercy’s mission of healing now and for generations to come.

100% of your gift will support:
Mercy Hospital Southwest Patient Care Tower - Cardiac Catheterization Lab: Minutes matter in issues of the heart. This will be the first ST-elevated myocardial infarction receiving facility west of Highway 99, serving all of West Bakersfield and west Kern County communities. The expansion will add two state-of-the-art Cardiac Cath labs, with the goal of having patients from the door of the Emergency Room to the operating table within 30 minutes.

Sister Judy Morasci Endowment for Women & Children: On January 1, 2021, Sister Judy Morasci, RSM, officially retired as Vice President of Mission Integration after 26 years of dedicated service to Mercy Hospitals and the Bakersfield Community. To honor her legacy, the Friends of Mercy Foundation established the Sister Judy Morasci Endowment for Women and Children. This endowment will live in perpetuity, benefitting local organizations that serve women and children with the most critical need.

Community Outreach

  • Acoustic Remedies Program: Promoting health and well-being in patients is the goal of Mercy’s Acoustic Remedies program. The various elements of music including rhythm, melody, harmony, and tempo stimulate a cognitive and emotional response that helps to positively affect mood and results in improved healing. Trained music specialists meet with patients individually and use planned, live music interventions to aid in the journey towards the healing of body, mind, and spirit.
  • Food Insecurity: Fighting hunger to address food insecurity in the community is a priority at the Learning and Outreach Centers. Hot meals for homeless, seniors, and poverty-stricken families that struggle with food every day are provided through the Breakfast Club, Dinner Bell, and emergency food basket programs. We strive to serve more people as the demand for food has sharply increased.
