Healing Garden

Healing Garden

Mercy's Healing Garden is Complete!

The Healing Garden is located adjacent to the Florence R. Wheeler Cancer Center at theTruxtun Campus.  It was made possible through a substantial gift to the Florence R. Wheeler Cancer center by Diane Lake.  Ms. Lake designated the donation to be used specifically for a Healing Garden that would honor the memory of her daughter, Catherine Lake.

Dan Monji, owner of Monji Enterprises, designed the garden and donated a generous portion of his costs to the project. The garden includes three "Monet" style arbors, a concrete walkway paved with some of the existing concrete, several circular planters, five benches, water features, dry creek stream bed and a multitude of trees, shrubs and flowering plants. It is the only hospital healing garden in Kern County. The garden is easily accessible to patients and families who visit the Florence R. Wheeler Cancer Center as well as employees, physicians, volunteers and visitors. The Healing Garden provides a passage way from the east parking lot to the hospital entrance for anyone who wishes to walk through it. It is a quiet and reflective place for healing - body, mind and soul.
