William Howell Century Club

William Howell Century Club

The William Howell Century Club is a men's philanthropic club started in honor of Mercy's 100th anniversary and William Howell, Sr., one of Mercy's first benefactors.  Mr. Howell was instrumental with bringing the Sisters of Mercy to Bakersfield and establishing Mercy Hospital in 1910.

The club, now in their second year has increased its membership to 84.  Sixty members kicked off the year at a membership dinner on October 11th at Mercy Southwest Hospital.  The evening included a tour of the construction site for the new emergency room expansion and a demonstration by ER staff on patient care in emergency situations.  The group will meet in February to decide how to use their cumulative gift.

Since this is a philanthropic club, members are asked to contribute $1,000 each year. 100% of this membership gift goes directly to the project chosen to be funded.
